Vintage Thingies Thursday

Click Miss Apron if you'd like to join in.

Before the summer gets away from us, I thought I would show you some of the things I plant my flowers in year after year. On the porch I usually put red geraniums in this white enameled cast iron bucket. The handle is missing on it.. but one of these days I'll find one and attach it. It is perfect as a planter, because the bottom has holes rusted in it.

I used to have four of these pretty ceramic planters from the 1940's. Years ago when we first moved into this old house.. I found them in the garage. But I was young then, and not as careful with precious vintage things, so somehow three of them have disappeared. Boo-hoo!

This wheelbarrow was here too. But I did use it for many years before I got a new red one. The flowerbed has become its new retirement home. It seems very happy. One year it held New Guinea Impatiens. This year there are some coleus in the center and regular impatiens around the edges.

And last but not least.. one of my favorites. These chairs as planters were a total accident. One year I didn't have time to finish putting all the flats of impatiens in the beds around the house, so I set them on these old chairs in the back yard. They never got planted in the ground, but the flowers looked so pretty on the chairs that I decided they should go there every year. And they've been sitting in the front yard every since. I don't like the black pots this year.. but the white ones that were in there last year got broken. I'm going to go shopping for some more white ones at the end of the summer.. (wait a minute.. that's now!)

I moved them over in the sun for the picture, but they are usually anchored to a tree because I'm afraid someone will steal them. Well that's all for the vintage things this Thursday. You are probably starting to think I don't have anything new. And you wouldn't be far off with that thought. Now I'm off to see what everyone else is showing...

Very good use of vintage things and pretty photos! I especially love those chairs. I am vintage myself-- so I remember these chairs with fondness from my childhood. You are wise to tether them to a tree...they are very pricey in these parts for garden use!

Your yard is sooo pretty! I love those chairs! Very unique. Around here everyone has the same plants and yard ornaments. You can't tell one home from the other. Yours is perfect!

Clever planters. Lovely flowers. We had a wheelbarrow planter once upon a time. It got left behind in a move.

I LOVE your chairs! I have been looking for some, but can't seem to find any in my area. Your flowers are beautiful!

How very cool to have these vintage pots and wheelbarrow etc. to put some pretty color into. I really like the old chairs and it's a sad commentary that you have to chain them to a tree so no one steals them.

New schmew. Everyone has new. Vintage is better. Love the flowers. Your garden/yard is beautiful. Love the flowers. I think quilters plant the best flower gardens/pots. It is all darling stuff. Hold onto it and don't let them get away.

I love they way you showcase your vintage buckets, wheelbarrel and chairs in your yard.
I have a friend in Buffalo NY who made a planter out of a toilet. Not the classiest thing.

Such pretty flowers, and everything looks so peaceful and summery! It almost makes me wish I gardened. But then I would actually have to get out there and do it!

Better yet, I will enjoy the beautiful work you've done!!

Cheers,
Dionne

Too bad about misplacing those 3 vintage planters, we've all done something like that, I know!
I love all the different containers and ways you display your plants!

Your planters are great - I just might steal that wheelbarrow idea when winter is over.

I love your creative and fun planter ideas. My neighbor has a little old wagon that he has used for a planter. Thanks for sharing your wonderful ideas.

Hia Eileen, what a lovely way to display those chairs- I love seeing unusual things in gardens. Knowing me I'd go overboard and put something like sweetpeas or giant nastertiums at the bottom of the chairs and let them climb up to create a chair of flowers. LOL I know I have the same overboard tendency in fabric too. LOL

Love the vintage gardening items. You mentioned you were afraid someone would steal your chairs & plants. One neighbor had a planter that she placed on her mailbox. It has turned into a neighborhood prank & joke. The planter moves from house to house, sitting on different people's mailboxes and porches. One day it will eventually make it's way back to her house. We live in a small neighborhood and everyone is in on hte joke.

Loved the vintage walk throughs. I don't have as many vintage things after children and probably 20 moves over the years. But its always fun to scratch for new ones. Love the old red chairs... I can understand keeping them chained up. We had to keep our chairs chained up ...even the plastic ones in Africa. They stole all of my chairs... and left the table. That is how I learned to lock em up.
