You don't have to tell me.. today is Thursday. And the last time I posted was Thursday. So let me try and do some catching up. It seems like it doesn't take much to get me off track and mess up my schedule. I was going along pretty good here on the blogging thing. Then oops.. I disappeared. Well over the weekend we attended a wedding for a relative. I'm not really much for showing lots of pictures of people's weddings.. you don't know them and it was the traditional attire and customs. But I did think these two little angels waiting for the reception were snap worthy.
Then we had a visit from Hurricane Ike. Now we live in northeastern Ohio, so we have never actually experienced a hurricane before that I can remember. Yes, we've had tornadoes, and they are devastating. But the winds we had on Sunday night lasted four hours, and I have never seen anything like it. Someone said we had two 91 mph gusts, but mostly it was just steady high winds. Almost immediately the power went out.. so we lit some candles and got out some flashlights..
The next day our power went off and came back on all through the day, but we didn't get Internet connection back until late Tuesday. We were very very lucky to have our electricity restored.. there are still 12,000 customers in Ohio that are without power. Nothing like Texas though. My heart goes out to those folks. We did not lose any trees either.. the worst was a branch that fell from the oak in the backyard.. (sorry about the shadows)..
But two blocks up the street two huge pines fell on a fence..
And while driving around this week, I saw many trees down.. some of them were huge.

One of my hobbies.. and sometimes this becomes an obsession, is the Family Tree. Genealogy research can absorb my thoughts and time for days and even weeks. This was one of those weeks. I had received some new information on one side of the family, and there were some questions that went along with that. So I had to go searching. I know it is maybe morbid to show a picture of a cemetery, but you can really learn a lot by studying the markers. And personally I think there is something very beautiful about them.
Today it is beautiful and sunny. The air is very fresh and clean..and the color is just starting to show in some of the leaves. This is one of our blueberry bushes we planted in the spring. I had no idea it would turn this beautiful shade..
And this bush in the back yard is loaded with red berries for the birds to enjoy all winter..
My rock garden rooster says hello, and hopes you are all having good days.
I don't think he is really considered vintage, so I'm afraid I have to skip VTT this week. And I will try and get around to visit, but we have another wedding to attend this weekend, and a houseful of people coming so somebody should probably clean.

I've missed you Eileen. Glad all is well. We, too, had horrific winds for hours and hours. People are still without power. The "calm" has been beautiful after the storm.
wow! ike sure was a doozey. i didn't realize he was wrecking havoc all the way up in ohio! i'm glad you didn't lose big trees! and i like your rooster! very cute. :)
That picture of the girls is sweet. I feel bad you and your community had to deal with all this too. I read Cherri House's blog and her photos made me sick. I don't think the press has covered the scope of this. The rooster is darling. You deserve a little blog break. Take it easy and have a good busy weekend at the other wedding.
Hia Eileen, that pic of reading by torch brought back childhood memories. Some of the best books I read were by torchlight.
It does sound like you have a good excuse for not being on-line- no power. ;-) The weather has been mad. We had the last throes of Summer today in the UK- I'll post pics tomorrow.
Aww those littlegirls are so sweet. They must've been so nervous and happy. :-)
Ooo I meant to add that I started looking nto the family tree and someone on genes re-united had done a name study of one branch and went back to 1490! It is fascinating.
You have had a busy week! Thank goodness you are all okay. The one thing that struck me in your post is the cemetery thing. My mom always told me that if you want to learn a little history, go to the cemetery and read the headstones. She is right and so are you!
Hi Eileen ..
I have been busy too.. I have been away over night with my job and we had a great time togehter..
Ike looks heavy.. This weekend I am guess Ike is visiting the nothern part Norway, but the wind has turned kinder..
I am attending a wedding this weekend to, it is my Niece. Si I am just home to turn out again. I guess my posting will be none. I am looking forward to next week ..
Wow that storm was a mess! Glad you're ok and back online.
I am so glad you posted pictures. The angels girls look darling! I am sorry Ike reached clear up to you. Texas is a mess. I feel so bad for the people suffering. My husband works for our church in the Southwest area and is responsible for 90 buildings in the Texas area hit by Ike. He was suppose to be in Houston all week, but many of the windows were blown out by the storm in the Marriot he was going to stay in which is 75 miles north west from Galveston! It is amazing though the buildings ALL had minimal damage, including the one in Galveston which didn't even have water damage. Which is such a blessing.
It seems we have more in common than just quilting. Family History research is also a love of mine. I can understand how you can get lost in it.
Good Luck and enjoy your wedding this weekend and please post more pictures! We are getting ready for our sons wedding.
Beth
Eileen,
Oh, family research is a true love of mine. Cemeteries are a very special place, both peaceful and lovely. I could get lost in it as well as quilting.
Lizzie
I miss you..but dont worry, do what you have to do as I am sure you are pretty busy..This hurricane is very scary..luckily we dont have them here..though we had a tsunami few years ago, hope you have a good weekend
Hi Eileen, Glad all is well with you and the family. My middle daughter is really into the family tree,we are finding our some very interesting things about ou family!! I know this sounds weird but i love to go to cemeteries too!! have a nice weekend, Jane
Hi Eileen, sorry to hear about your weather experiences! Did you already have blueberries from the bushes? The colours are just like our wild blueberries leaves are now. - I recently took some photos at the cemetery, now I feel I can show them to everyone without seeming weird.
i knew something was going on. a whole week & no Eileen. we have a beautiful cemetery in town where a lot of famous people are buried. they even have a walking tour around halloween. & those are very adorable angels.
hello!! i am glad you are OK..no worries about commenting. you are a busy gal.
love that cute little rooster. poor trees.
have a great week! julie
Good to hear all is well! I've never experienced a hurricane or a tornado..so I can not imagine what it feels like but it must have been horrible.
Have a good week!
Glad you are posting again. It's easy to get so involved with life that blogging doesn't fit in...speaking from experience. Love your picture of the little girls. Also, family history is also a hobby of mine. Part of the reason I haven't been quilting as much is that I got a computer program to input my information!
I'm glad you made it through the storm OK on Sunday night...weren't those winds something? We lost power for about 18 hours but we were among the lucky ones!
So, so sad to lose trees (this I know!). Glad to hear that Ike wasn't too harsh on you up in Ohio.
Cute rooster!!! He looks happy there amongst the pretty flowers!
hugs,
Becky
