I did not sew anything for Hitty to take today, but I did make cookies...
..and apple crisp but I forgot to take a picture of it before we tasted..
So tonight when I got home and sat down to catch up on blogs and emails, I start looking at cottage blocks and saw these made by Karen..
At first I thought maybe she came to my house today while I was gone and rummaged through my ric-rac box. But no.. I didn't have any of that with a Taylor Bird label.. and definitely not that much green. But then I read what she said about the tiny ric-rac on the windows.. and immediately had to go take a picture of the blocks I had made last night.. and exactly how I had them laid out. We were thinking the SAME THING! Below are my blocks.
That just really cracked me up. I think Karen too.
Anyways.. one more cottage block story then I'll say goodnight. I thought I had a really big piece of that white on white holly leaf fabric for the sky.. plenty for all the blocks to be the same, so I started cutting them out. About halfway through the fabric I looked and realized it was NOT going to be enough. Phooey.. I am pretty sure the quilt shop does not have any more of this.. because I bought it a couple years ago and the date on the selvage was 1998. If only I hadn't have cut doll pinafores out of it already, maybe it would have worked. But I just kept cutting anyways and figured when I ran out I would make my own block out of plain white. Well here are all the pieces I need... ..and this is what was left. And I had exactly enough. This is probably not really all that interesting to anyone but me. But I thought it was totally wonderful.

The cookies and apple crisp look wonderfully delicious.
The treats look so yummy and fall like! Isn't that just always the way, you think you have enough fabric and then poof not enough. Ack...it can just drive you crazy.
your cottage blocks are sooo cute!! aren't they fun to make? they really do sew up fast. i hve so many ideas for mine!!
I used to use this fabric to make angel dresses. When the basement isn't too scary dark I will go down later and see if I still have a bit if you could use it to finish your blocks. I'll stop back and let you know what I have.

That is amazing that you came out so close with the fabric! The Christmas blocks are cute What a fun project! Cannot wait to see more!
Oh yum on the cookies and apple crisp. The ric rac windows panes is such a cute idea. I put curtains in my windows.
Morning Eileen, don'tyou just love it when that happens! I was like that with the layer cake just managing to do those 4 apples. :-)
Delish looking food- love love your leaf shapes. I have printed out the tutorial now telling me what size cottage blocks so I WILL be joining in unofficially. It may take a bit of time to clear the runway. LOL
oh I want one! They are so unique and have an awesome vintage flare. I love it.
Where do you find so much rick rack especially the tiny one??
The story of your fabric was just like what my mother used to do: She would buy fabric to make a blouse. Then she would think it would make a nice dress to one of her girls. She would arrange her patterns over and over and make that dress, with just enough fabric to make a ribbon to wear in the hair as well. A lot more pleasing than making a blouse and having lots of scraps left over!
Well, there's plenty left there for something - better save it! LOL.
Love your blocks! I can't wait to see finished quilts from this exchange. Such great fabrics and colors.
Oh those cookies look yummy! I love it when it works out like that with your white fabric!! Usually though I have just a tiny bit too little or way too much lol!!
I think you got an early Christmas present for your Christmas blocks. I have never had fabric be just enough like that. Love the ric rac trim on the windows and cheery look of your houses.
Lovely cakes, I will be over soon to taste...The leaves remind my of my time in Canada. Your Hitty club sounds like a lot of fun. Have a wonderful weekend Eileen..
I don't think it matters you forgot to take a picture of the apple crisp before it got tasted. It sure does look yummy! Your cottage blocks are super cute!
Your cottage blocks are beautiful! I love the ric rac detail...
HI Eileen,
I loved your vintage houses- the fabrics look so cute with that rick rack- you are lucky that you have some of those things on hand- I went to buy rick rack a while ago and it was about 2 dollars for a package of it and the colors were pretty ordinary..
Thought you might want to check out my first attempts as I venture in to the world of blogging..
here is the address:

I will look forward to seeing more of your houses..
