First Cottage Block

Here is just a quick glimps of my first Cottage. I really don't have anything here with Christmas novelty on it, except the white. It has tiny white holly leaves, but don't they kind of look like snowflakes? So this is the only fabric that will be the same in all of the blocks I'm making for the exchange, (see previous post).

Not buying anything new. Hope that is ok with everyone who is getting one of my blocks. I'm going to try and use mostly vintage fabrics and trims for the houses.. but there might be a couple new pieces thrown in. Now I know you can get this red with the white polka dots today, but this piece is probably from the 1950's. It has a 35" selvage. I just love the crispness that the older fabrics have.. even after they are washed.

Busy day. Hope I get a chance to make another cottage block. They are REALLY a lot of fun. If you haven't seen Nanette's tutorial for these cute quilt blocks yet, click here. These go together so easily, I have a feeling we will be seeing a lot of them in blogland over the next couple of months!

That is so sweet Eileen! Beautiful vinatge fabrics. I'm sure your set will be sp pleased.

Thanks for the link. I will have a go at one or 2. I can see just a single block being a cute placemat. You could make them so personal to the person you've sat at a particular place. You could even make them as a set of 4 seasons with perhaps roses as a Summer theme.

Oh my so many possibilities it's got my befuggled head going off at another tangent! LOL I know I've all the attention span of a goldfish!

Who wouldn't want to get a block made with mostly vintage fabric and trim--sounds wonderful to me :) I love your first block, this is going to be fun to watch even though I didn't sign up!

Looks like you have joined something very interesting. I would loved to participate myself but I am a bit short of time. Good luck though.

I love your cottages. I agree with Nanette, vintage is better.
