Little Golden Books Vintage Thingies Thursday

I don't claim to have a huge collection of these, there are around 70 here. But today I would like to share my oldest Little Golden Books with you.

Most of these are from before 1960, and probably a lot of them will be familiar to you. Who doesn't know the adorable faces of Eloise Wilkin..?
There are a couple here that are early 1960's that I had to add, especially "the cow went over the mountain". It was one of the first books I learned to read in first grade.
I don't know why this one has a red spine. And I never realized I had two Gingerbread Man books until just now. Cookie man is the same some the front of each book. Most of these books were in our family when I was growing up.
Some of these I did pick up in thrift stores and flea markets along the way. And I don't plan on stopping.
Lisa the Apron Queen is the host of "Vintage Thingies Thursday". If you would like to join in, or just look around at some of the others who are sharing their vintage treasures, click the lovely apron lady below.

Seeing those books really brought back memories! I didn't even keep all the Golden Books I read to my own children. Now I wish I had!

My children were born in the 80's and so many of those books were reprinted then. Our two favorites were "We Help Mommy" and "We Help Daddy". Alas, our third child went through a very disturbing phase of destroying books...mostly the Golden Books....and very few survived for child #4! Wish I could spot them to replace them for the older children. Thanks for showing them, wonderful memories!

Oh wow they are lovely all of them. I LOVE Golden Books. Do you remember (maybe they still do) they used to sell little tiny golden books? I used to buy those for my older kids when they were little. They were so darn cute. I have a few vintage books like these too. They are so fun to have.

Wonderful collection. I am always on the lookout for my alltime favorite Golden Book of old...The Wake Up Book...but I'm not sure that's the title.

Yours are treasures.

Thanks for the nostalgia trip! We had a large book full of Golden Book stories which came with a vinyl record. I can still hear the voice reading The Pokey Little Puppy, The Tawny Scrawny Lion and the Saggy Baggy Elephant. How I wish I still had it!

I too remember Golden Books from my own childhood (as well as my kids'). I especially remember one about baking a cake for Daddy but I don't remember the title. It was great seeing some of your collection.

We are such kindred spirits! I have many of those, and others as well, but not as many old-old ones as you have.

Not only are the stories sweet, but the illustrations are wonderful. Eloise Wilkin is one of my favorites. Thanks for sharing your collection! I'm going to put some of mine up for VTT one day too!

Ooooh! I never knew there was a Smokey Bear Little Golden Book! Now I'm on a mission to find one, I love Smokey! (In fact, I'm wearing a Smokey Bear t-shirt as we speak.) You should check out my blog in a couple weeks - my daughter's first birthday is Wednesday, and I used vintage Little Golden books to make the decorations. I'll post pics after her party.

I remember several of them... my mom has them all too. My favorite is..."The Color Kittens" when the kittens could not figure out how to get the color of green, then one got excited and dumped over the bucket of blue and yellow and what do you know,....it made green!
