Vintage Animal Faces

Thanks to Lisa The Apron Queen for hosting the Vintage Thingies Thursdays. Click here to go to her blog for links to lots of other vintage posts.

Along with the real flesh and blood people, our dog, fabric, patterns, books, quilts, dolls and everything else, a few ceramic/porcelain/chalkware animals have found their way to live here on the shelves of this crowded little old house. I didn't take time to dig all of them out of boxes, and did not go into my daughters room to see who might be living in there, but I went around this morning to see how many I could find to show today for Vintage Thursday. Here is an owl pitcher that I blogged about once before, and a little yellow kitty. They sit on my kitchen shelf.
This tiger has been in my life as long as I can remember. I used to have nightmares about him. We also had a Hummel figure of a little boy with a camera, and my dad always had them posed together. When he moved away he took the camera boy, but left the tiger. So he now lives here. The tiger isn't hummel.. he was "Made in Japan"

A yellow dog also lives on the same shelf as the owl and the pussycat in the kitchen..
This little planter sits on the kitchen windowsill. Once it did have some vines growing in it, but there really isn't good drainage. I always cheered for the bunnies! Stay VERY STILL.

Some more kitchen shelf faces. A little brown dog and some puppy salt/pepper shakers..

This funny bunny sits in the bathroom and holds cotton balls in his tail.

There is also a collie dog that lives here someplace, but I don't remember where I put him. I need to get him out and put him together with his pal up on top of the bookcase..

These sit on the book case too. I took them down though for photos because the light in the livinroom is not good for pictures. The elephant is what I think is "chalkware".
I can't really wash him with water.. at least I'm afraid to try. I don't want him to melt away. He lived in this house longer than anyone.. he was here in one of the attic windowsills when we moved in 30 years ago.
Now I'm off to see what everyone else is showing today. I know I am way behind!

What a nice collection. Man o Man, I LOVE that planter...I would be cheering for the bunnies too. Do you know who made it? I would love to find one like that. It is so unusual and so cute.

You have some sweet animals living with you. I think the fox looks very elegant but of course I'm for the bunnies, they look so careful hiding from the fox.

The tiger kinda scares me too! It's funny how we never root for the fox... Go Bunnies!

What a collection! I love your fox planter! I used to see things like that around when I was little and loved them. Sadly though they aren't around much now. I wish I could remember the name for it.

Fresh bread might clean your elephant.

Thanks for sharing them.

Eileen, you have quite the group of cheerful faces about your house!!! They are all so very sweet...except that Tiger, of course!! I would have been afraid of it, too.
