New Year Charms Giveaway

Out with the old and in with the new. That's what celebrating the New Year is all about.. isn't it? So here is a little bit of "old" that is going out of my house.. and maybe would be some "new" inspiration for one of you as we begin a new year of creating, sewing and quilting.

There are a total of 76 4 1/2" (four and a half inch) charms.. over half of them of them authentic feedsack, but all are vintage fabrics cut from my stash. A dozen solids, some florals, some stripes, some polka dots, a couple of novelty prints. You will have fun looking through them and thinking of some way to use them. I kept telling myself as I was cutting them that I needed to be cutting two.. and make myself a quilt as well.

But anyways.. this is the prize in my first give-away. To have your name entered, leave a comment on this post between now and Midnight, Sunday January 4th EST.. (that is my time zone..) make sure I have a way of contacting you, such as email etc, and tell me what is your very favorite style, era, type of fabric. What do you always seem to navigate too?.. is it Kaffe that make you go crazy?.. or one of the other modern fabric lines? Or do you simply melt away like I do at the scent and texture of an old feedsack that was stored in someone's attic for 60 years? Tell me what is always a magnet for you when it comes to fabric. Then on Monday January 5th, I'll be drawing the one winner's name. That is my birthday.. and what better day is there to give a present!

All nice comments will be entered, whether you tell your favorite fabric or not.. it would just be fun to hear everyone's thoughts.

Please remember.. comment BY Midnight on the 4th.. no later.. and email me if you are a no-reply blogger so I can include your name for a chance to get these fun charms.

There are a lot of give-aways in the next couple of weeks. "Whirl Into Winter" is hosting tons of them through the 15th, and I know Terri from Purple & Paisley is also having one next week. So you get lots of good chances!

Happy New year to all!

added Thursday 11:06 am:

I will repeat.. since I only have three comments and two of them are already no-reply bloggers with no email contact. I can NOT put you in the drawing if I do not have your email. Please include an email for me to contact you.

I have always loved the 30's prints but as time goes on, I find I like to expand into batiks, new wild prints and two-color quilts.
What lovely charms you have!

I love any retro fabrics. Feedsacks and 50's Christmas are one of my fav's. Love your charms.

I love anything Kaffe, but adding to that... there isn't a quilt I've met that I haven't loved.
How fun to do a give away, and for also sending us on to other give aways. Happy Birthday!

Well I have finally defined my style as vintage modern. LOVE the old fabrics (feedsacks, tablecloths, etc...) paired with Amy Butler, Heather Bailey, etc...First I think I'm drawn to the colors and then the patterns. I'm a bit eclectic! What a generous giveaway Eileen. Happy Birthday to you!

KittyAnn said...

Wow, what a nice give-a-way Eileen! I LOVE cheery colored feedsacks and also repro vintage inspired fabrics of the 1800's as well as long as they're colorful. Some of the modern 'deco' inspired large prints are interesting, haven't purchased any yet. I received a Christmas gift card to a local fabric store so who knows what will follow me home! Take a look at this quilt - http://www.quilttownusa.com/Quilt_Gallery/Feedsack%20imgs/sunshine.jpg - wouldn't it be cool in feedsack fabric? Bye for now, Ani

Wow! What an awewome giveaway. Beautiful fabrics. I always seem to gravitate towards small prints. I need to broaden my horizons and try out some larger ones. But the little ones are just so darling.

I actually love any kind of fabric but nostalgic fabric always catches my fancy. I love anything old and is brings back such good memories(yes I am old). I love the bygone years of my life! a.haun@sbcglobal.net

My favorite fabrics are feedsacks and the 30's inspired prints. They are such "happy" prints. I love to look at my old quilts to see how many "new" fabrics I spy at that moment.

Happy New Year, Eileen! Thank you for hosting a fabulous giveaway. Please toss my name in for the drawing. I'd LOVE to add these to my collection!!

What a wonderful giveaway, Happy Happy Birthday to you! Well, you know I love your fabric! I have two things that I am drawn to, I love the old fashion look and like to pretend it is fabric from my great-gradmother who quilted, but there is none of her work to be found. I love the new 40's look, bright and fun. Wait, i love bright fabrics, wait I love christmas prints. Maybe it would be easier to tell you what I do not like! I do not like flannel or batiks. Oh my, forget it, I just love fabric!!!

PS stop by my giveaway too!

Eileen that is such a nice giveaway.
I have something for you too but the post office machine today was out of order.

Anyway, I too am having a giveaway so head on over to my blog.
It has been such a pleasure blogging with you this year!

Hi Eileen, Happy New Year!! What a great way to celebrate and a birthday too, 29 years young! I wish you all the best in the coming year and it has been terrific making your acquaintance over the last year. You are fantastic. So I have to say, that I am really attracted to 2 types of fabrics... bright and 30's repros (feedsacks). So these charms would be a great addition to my stash.

Oh and by the way, this week I will also be celebrating my 100th post and be hosting a really big giveaway so be sure to stop by!!

Sherri said...

I was just about to write that I wasn't quite sure of my style, eclectic??? Since I love vintage, traditional, and the modern prints...but then I saw Stephanie's answer...and I'm vintage modern too! This is such a lovely giveaway...I'd love to have some fabric that I knew was a feedsack print!

Messy Karen said...

i am not drawn to feedsack or vintage fabric. what i love is how i feel when i take something that i know is old and make something with it. what i would like to do is use modern fabric to make something that feels real old (to me). i think i need to look at traditional blocks. so that's what i'm going to try next. it still fascinates me that even though we all like different types of fabrics we are still connected so strongly thru that needle and thread. Eileen. what a nice giveaway. love the fabrics you have chosen. Happy BD.

You are running into the age old problem - no reply bloggers. In the times I have harped on this it has made no difference. Good luck! I think people don't realize they are not giving their email out with comments. I think it is something they are oblivious to. Oh well.

Your style and mine are totally the same of course! These are so darling. I love all of them. I am lucky enough to have a few of them! yippee. I love your stash. It is so great. And Happy PreBirthday!

Hi and Happy New Year to you! DH said thank you for the birthday wishes! When I told him your birthday was the 5th he said that only the special are born in January! I have to agree!

I would love to enter your giveaway, but I will leave it for someone who will use the fabric, I wish I had the patience to make a quilt and the talent, but I do not. The fabric is lovely and just for fun my favorite would be the feedsack fabrics from the early l950, my mother would use them to make my sister and I dresses and she made herself aprons.

This is a fun giveaway! Good Luck everyone!

Happy Birthday!! My birthday is the 7th. Hope I win! I've not worked with vintage fabric before but would love to try... I've been drawn to brights for the past couple of years as a lot of people I know seem to be having babies... when I have time I've been making pinwheels out of old-fashioned tiny florals in faded colours. Not sure what I'm going to do with them yet, just wanted something that looked old.
Have fun on your special day!!
Hugs

Oh, wow. what wonderful colors. Please enter me, I was just looking on ebay for fabric.

I love vintage fabrics with flowers. Feedsack fabric is also a favorite. I like some 70ish looks, but mostly simple, small flowers not too large a print.

Crosses fingers here!!

Hello Eileen!

First let me say Happy New Year and Happy Birthday. Since I have been blogging I have been made aware of the vintage fabric which I truly love. That is why I got one of Nanette's charm packs. It was so much fun going through it. Fabric usually draws me to it by color first. I like more traditional, not to fond of giant patterns.

Have the best birthday ever on the 5th.

I love vintage fabrics and have quilted several feedsack quilts this year. I have made several miniature quilts with vintage fabrics and they make pretty table toppers. I also love batiks! How about, one extreme to the other! Have a happy birthday and a healthy year!

Hi Eileen! First of all thanks for your giveaway and HAPPY NEW YEAR! About fabrics...I love soft fabrics, floral fabrics, retro fabrics...I don't like the dark fabrics...I need colour and fun.... Kisses from Spain

Victoria Findlay Wolfe said...

Well, the 5th, very interesting. that was my grandmothers birthday too!
She had severe arthritis in her hand yet she made so many crazy quilts in her life. IT was amazing to watch her. So any fabric that reminds me of her sitting there quilting... Mostly she used, eek, polyester, as she could get the needle very easily through, but I get very excited by the 40's fabrics and bark cloths, as it reminds me of her house. I enjoyed the I time in her house...with her.

Happy birthday! Sadly, I seem to love ALL fabric, as my stash would show... ;-) I guess if I had to pick favorites, I'd say I love the two-color combinations in fun patterns (swirls, polka dots, etc.). They just seem so versatile for scrappy projects. [evelynfwells at yahoo dot com]

Terri S said...

I tend to gravitate towards more traditional and vintage fabrics, although I'm having a lot of fun lately with more modern fabrics in bright colors.

Anonymous said...

What a wonderful selection of fabrics! It's hard to say what fabrics I gravitate toward, because I love so many. I like strong, odd colors and prints, so the modern yellow greens and geometric patterns are especially magnetic right now. I have a soft spot in my heart for "ugly" colors - I have a nice little collection of mustard yellow prints. Oddly enough, I am also drawn by soft, rosy florals. The 50's fabrics come close to filling both needs - florals, but in strong colors that are a little unusual.

Kellie said...

Hi Eileen! I found you through TwoUnderThree :)

I like modern fabric lines like Amy Butler and Heather Bailey, but I am also in love w/the vintage & reproduction 30's prints too.

I participated in a BOTM at my local quilt shop. When I signed up I chose civil war fabrics instead(why, I don't know)and have been making my blocks grudgingly w/them and wishing I'd have chosen 30's while everone was showing off their lovely 30's blocks. When I signed up to re-do BOTM for this year, the owner laughed and said "Good! Cause it just felt WRONG handing you those civil war kits all year long!"
You're vintage fabrics are lovely!

Lisa said...

Ooh, awesome giveaway... my favorite fabric is... a lot. No, ALL the fabric. I want all of it. One piece of every fabric ever made is all it would take to make me happy. LOL!

If I had to narrow it down, I would have to say the bright vintage fabrics from the 30s or 40s are what are doing it for me right now. And the more the merrier!

Happy birthday to you!

Dionne said...

Your fabrics are LOVELY! I must admit that I am having difficulty narrowing my favorite down to just one. It's easier to say the only kind of fabric that I really don't care for are the civil war prints. Your birthday is on the same day (almost - 4th) as my little girl!
Cheers,
Dionne

I may need to do a giveaway like this one, too, one day. -- Michele

my favorites- anything that looks vintage to me. 30s, 50s, 60s etc. (hmmm.. except not vintage 1980 or 90) i like the idea of something old looking new again.

Thank you for this lovely giveaway. I am very fond of the vintage 30's fabrics. I have oddles and oddles of 30's reproduction fabrics for my scrap quilts and I've been gifted with some of the real deal from a very dear friends. She says to save it for a "someday quilt". Someday, I'll have collect enough to make a quilt. I'm not real fond of those jazzy fabrics. I guess I was born about 100 years too late. Thank you

I love all fabric, my fabric selection depends on the pattern. When using 30's fabric, I seem to always go back to DWR and GMFG and my all time favorite pattern 54/40 or fight. With batiks the sky is the limit. And I just started to work with my scrap must say that for the most part I have enjoyed how they turned out.

I see you've gone from 3 to 87 comments very quickly.... What gorgeous charms. I'm not sure I have a favorite designer, I just gravitate to what I think looks good for a particular quilt pattern. I'm not bothered whether it's the latest fabric or not, as long as I like it and it's going to work in the quilt I'm making then I'm happy.

Hia Eileen, wow what a lot of comments! I'm catching up yet again with blogland and email. Son still isn't 100% and is sharing the lurge.

You asked about taste and fabric style. I love colour, small prints generally as they can be so many things, Laurel burch is fab, and I like some Kaffe Fassett, some Japanese some Michael Miller, but mainly I like these tonal fabrics for versatility. The dining room is rainbow jungle but each room has a vague theme. How about if I go for eccletic as a style?

Oh Wow Eileen, I'm loving your charms for the giveaway! My stlye, hard to decide, but I do love all the my Gramma used, I guess I'd call that vintage and FEED SACKS! love them. The Flea Market Fancy is one of my very favorite lines. Small projects are my style of late also. I've enjoyed your blog these last several weeks. Thanks so much! Here's hoping to win from Idaho!
