Yay! Done just in time for "Lit&Laundry's "Finished for Friday" All quilted, bond, washed and dried. It is for a baby girl who isn't quite here yet.
Seems like I started this ages ago, but had several interruptions before I could sit down and get it finished. The pattern came from Miri at Milk&Honey Quilts. She will share it with you for free if you just go visit her blog. ☺
I was really excited about this because it was my first time ever to try free-motion machine quilting. I did meandering around the elephants and wavies on the border. Not real smooth yet.. but it was a lot of fun and I think it looks cute. The hearts are hand-quilted. I just could not bring myself to making them so messy.
Here is the back.
These two adorable elephant juvenile prints were in my mother's stash. She always told me she wanted to make some baby quilts for charity with it, and I've been hanging on to it for over 7 years to use in just the right project.
Last post I showed you my vintage "darning spring". This is what I used for the whole quilt, and to my delight, I discovered a girl who sells them! I got to thinking how much I loved this little gadget, because it is simply perfect for me and my old machines and what if I would lose it or bend it? So I searched and found her at The Sew Box. She has a blog too which is very informative if you are into old machines and their attachments.
I'll try and do a little catching up here over the weekends. We are one computer short at this house, so I'm sharing mine part of the time. Yeah.. that's my excuse and I'm stickin' to it.
pssst.. there is mistake humility block in my elephant quilt, (which btw is a myth). Maybe no one will see it. ☺

Hi Eileen! I love the way the elephants are holding tails. I love how your mother's fabrics fit so well into your lovely quilt. My kids love doing free-motion machining too! And...I can't find the humility block (yet!!!).
Wow Eileen what a wonderful quilt you have made for a very lucky little girl...
Have you been handquilting the hole quilt, looks so to me. An amazing job, you rock Eileen.

Wow--it came out really great! The baby will love the colors on both sides. That darning foot turned out to be a cool item. Lucky baby girls who gets this quilt As for that ...cough...cough....mistake, I do not think anybody will look or care!
Love this quilt!! It is just adorable. I just finished quilting an elephant quilt for a customer of mine. Although, she made one big elephant instead of a bunch of smaller ones. I love your version, and your quilting is spot on!! She will cherish it forever!

What a very lucky little baby, once she arrives. Love the red/white gingham check binding. I have heard the myth...always wondered weather it was true or not.

The elephants look so cute, on both sides of the quilt! You found the perfect use for your mother's fabrics. The machine quilting works fine here, but I also love the hand quilted hearts. The one elephant is just individual, doesn't look like a mistake.
Wonderful Eileen. It looks lovely. What a lucky little baby! I made a baby quilt using that same frolicing elephant fabric you used in your backing--only in a different colorway.
Very cute. Love the embroidered flowers.
Your elephant quilt is just adorable! It even looks good folded up-I love the red check binding! Its the perfect baby quilt-cheery and colorful with darling little touches like the eyes, the tails and the flowers! I'm so proud that you used my pattern to create such a wonderfully creative and delightful quilt!
I have one of your Mom's elephant fabrics from the back-the one where the elephants are on the grass! I've had a fat quarter for years-never wanted to cut it up, I guess...
this is such a cute quilt!!!
:)

This is ADORABLE!! I love your fabric choices. And I looked and looked and couldn't find a mistake. LOL!
This is one of the most lovely quilts I've seen lately. It is so sweet and creative. The elephants are darling. I loved seeing it as you progressed and it is fun to see it finished. Good for you. I think it is charming.
This is soo gorgeous! Love everything you did with it (can't find the mistake, either I am blind or it isn't too bad at all!)
Hi, I'm back here again to get ideas for the quilting. I'm working on my version of Miri's elephants. Now I notice that you changed some of the trunks as well, to hold the tails. That looks cute.
