But what I also discovered I needed was something to put it in! Pockets just won't do. I had bought a yard of this Sandy Klopp American Jane fabric a few weeks ago.. from the Apple Pie collection, and it was the perfect thing to use for the pockets of my new cobbler's apron.
I used this adorable vintage pattern, only cut it down a bit so it wouldn't be as ruffled. The body of the apron is a recycled khaki skirt that was way too long, (I just cut the bottom off and had plenty!) But the fabric was a little heavy to do much gathering. Wow. Love the hostess with the perfect makeup, teased hair, and dangling earrings.
I can even slouch my shoulders like that too.. in fact I do, and it's not good for one's posture! But she is obviously hosting a fancy Christmas party.
Anyway.. the one I made myself is for EVERY DAY. I can tie it on and stuff the pockets with things to take out and work on while I sit on the deck watching the birds.. and now listening to podcasts or music if I want. ☺

I do want to thank everyone for all the great comments. I'm really gonna try and answer them all. It does help too if you at least give me your email address.. especially if you don't have a blog that I can return the visit. I'll be around to see you soon..

I wish I could wear an apron all day everyday. They keep my clothes clean and give me places to put stuff. And keep threads off me. Which is a huge problem. I absolutely love aprons. Aprons of all types!
excellent apron for gardening too Ms. Eileen.:)
Sounds like great fun and I love the apron. Your walking tour was great too, I am a little behind so just read it...it is nice to have a pleasant place to walk.
Uh-oh. I showed this to Mr. Dollz and he laughed aloud and mumbled that he thought the desire for this kind of iPod might be contagious for a certain traveler.
I wear aprons all the time. I am the kind of person who spills or gets paints on herself. I used to have a business making aprons a long time ago in the 80's. I LOVE the one you made and I LOVE the fabric. RA is very cute, too!
Cute idea, Eileen. I have some 77 cent aprons from Home Depot I want to decorate for that type of purpose.
A 25 cent pattern! Love what you did with it.
I'm so low tech I'm almost no tech! I don't even like having a cell phone. Cute apron.
Lucky you. No iPod Touch here. Have an ipod though. Love the apron. And the ragged ann doll. Oh my I love those.
That's really an ingenious idea for your IPOD and miscellaneous stuff. I need to come up with something like that for all of the office products I work with. As it is now, I am always running from room to room looking to try to find where I laid something down. At home, I work between two rooms..and usually what ever I need is always in the other room.
Your Raggedy Ann is really cute, too.
Cute apron. Great idea for holding stuff! Raggedy Ann is adorable! Thanks for letting me come on the nature walk. I loved all your photos!
Don't you look like that every day when you wake up? How come she isn't wearing peals like June Cleaver?
You still can be the hostess with the mostess with that cute apron.
Your apron is really cool! Almost like Tim Taylor's leather tool belt with a feminine touch. Makes me want to make one for me, too.
The little Ann looks so happy trying her dress on!
What a clever girl! I love the apron that you made for your new iPod touch. Yay! Now you will be able to listen to my podcasts on the go. By the way, the next one hopefully will be up this week, so keep an eye out. One last thing, and why don't you tease your hair like that hmmmmm.....????
What a clever idea... that apron is perfect. And the doll is supercute!
I thought I'd left a comment on your previous post last time I was here... hmmm... must have forgotten. It was so much fun seing pictures of YOU... and it looks like a really beautiful walk.
oooh eileen, the apron is lovely - and the stripe in the fabric is just perfect for that layout. I've always wanted a useful apron for outdoors like that. Gorgeous!
I love wearing an apron in the kitchen but messy me needs one that goes up to my neck LOL! I never think to wear one outside of the kitchen but it would come in handy wouldn't it. Great job, it looks great.
Great apron! And congrats on the phone!
Love your apron! Such a very clever idea!
Love the ladies on the pattern. Your apron is very spiffy too. I just thought the Ipod was for music. Have fun with your new gadget.
I hv an iPod Touch too & don't know how to use most of the fancy gadgets though! The typing of of emails on the iPod is maddening though, isn't it? And...very fancy functional apron! I love aprons!!!
Ooo what a fun idea! I had to ask Lovely Husband what one was. LOL I know I was born in the wrong century.
I hope you are enjoying a lovely day in the sun wearing your apron watching the birds sewing hair. I am devoting this morning to catching up with the people who have left me comments while I have been so busy.
Great apron idea...that a wear-at-the-waist hausfrau! I love my ipod...it helps me get so much hand sewing done :) I love having someone read to me!
funny. only you would take something hi-tech and make it low-tech.
What a great idea to make an apron for your mobilphone and I must say what a phone you have got! I am very envious...
Hi, Eileen! Found my way here via Xue :o) I greatly admire all your quilting. I dabble in quilting a bit too, but mostly do other fiber arts as well as knitting and jewelry making. LOVE your apron! I have that very same old pattern--my mom gave it to me. :o) Your Raggedy is so sweet. Have fun with your new gadget! Happy Days...
Oh...I love those vintage prints on aprons!! We certainly don't see them like this nowadays...I should sew myself one like this..since I have my mean machine now hehe :)
Oh what a fab idea! I never seem to have any pockets in my clothes; manufacturers obviously think that only blokes want/need pockets!
I really will have to stop blog-hopping ~ your's is yet another to add to the ever-growing list on my blog!
