The drive was absolutely gorgeous through the mountains of West Virginia and Virginia..

We stopped overnight in Macon Georgia, where my youngest son lives. Had a really nice visit with him and he took me out for pizza that evening. Macon is such a cute town.. I love it there. Saw this mural painted on one of the buildings there so I snapped a picture..

Then the next morning we continued on to Florida. This is the little community where my dad lives. It isn't near the coast.. but they have a little fishing lake..
And it is definitely Florida. The first morning I was there I took these pictures as the sun was just coming up..

Dad lives on one of the back corners next to some thick vegetation and a little creek. This is his back yard..

He has a couple of small fish ponds, and has built little bridges across them. He also loves feeding and taking pictures of the birds. ☺
Here is his Kumquat tree.
I don't really like to eat them, but they are sure pretty.
One of the days we took a tour of Echo. It is an Agricultural training center and experimental plant nursery that works towards ways of feeding hungry people of the world. I really can't explain it all and do it justice, but you can read about it HERE. Dad volunteers at this place, so he took me around and showed me things. I met these little guys (anoles) along the pathway.
And this fellow was just getting ready to crow..
I didn't really get to do any shopping.. so no quilt shops. Plus I was flying home.. and couldn't really take much back with me..
....this beautiful sunset was outside the plane window coming into Pittsburgh Airport..
...but this was waiting for me when I walked in the door. ☺I completely had a weak moment last week and put in an order in at Whittles.

I spent today just catching up on things here.. so I'll try to make it for a visit soon...

So glad you had a great trip with your dad. You might have passed my town coming off the mountains. I never did like eating kumquats either.
Love those fabrics.
those run away truck ramps look familar, was that on I-77? I live about an hour west of that.
That is a gorgeous drive south ... the mountains are exquisite, the mist just lingers ... glad you ahd a wonderful time.

I am so glad you had a nice visit.
Did you bring the rain with you?
It has not stopped. Not complaining, my plants needed it.
I feel like I have been on your trip with you! Thanks for sharing all the lovely photos. What does a kumquat taste like? I have always hesitated to buy them because I am not sure that they are going to be sweet. So nice to have fabric waiting when you arrive home. Don't we all have those weak moments?
Looks like your dad has lots to keep him busy. Now you can get busy with that yummy stack of fabric!
Looks like a fabulous trip! What a great parcel to come home to.... can't wait to see some more pictures of these fabrics..... hint hint!
Beautiful!!! I wish I could have stowed away in your trunk and taken the trip with you. But I don't think I could have gotten away with that on the plane. They have rules about that you know? Didn't you want to stay longer? By the way, your pictures are awesome.
What a visual treat Eileen...as you would have guessed, I would love your Dad's garden! I've gone garden mad nowadays..its all I ever think of,I think my blog will turn into a garden blog soon hehe!! Beautiful fabrics there, I guess you can never have enough of them..just like I can never have enough of flowers..hugs.........M

It was nice to see the pictures from your long drive and your dad's garden. 1300 miles, it is much more than my country from the north to the south!
I can't wait to see what you will make with the new fabrics.
Fab trip! Super visit with your Dad and fabric waiting your you at home! It doesn't get better than that!
Great photos!
Always love pics of fabrics!!! I love your father's garden too but I'm not so crazy of little friends like those...sorry :) .
We used to have monitor lizards in our garden & that's pretty scary too!
Sounds like a great trip with your dad...there is something about riding in the car with someone, you usually have the best conversations.
It's been a long time since I made that trek to FL. And my parents stopped in Macon for the night too.
Your father's place looks so comfortable and inviting. And what a nice stack of fabric to come home to.
Great trip with Dad. We live in the coastal part of Virginia but isn't the mountains of western Va. just breathtaking? I love them.
Welcome back. So glad you had a nice time. Love you new fabrics too.
Glad you had a great trip! Kumquats make the best marmalade.

That roadside scenery makes me home sick for the east. But really. Your dad lives in paradise! What fun. Love the new fabric.
How wonderful to get to visit your son and your father!!!! Love his yard, too!!!

Hia Eileen, what a lovely visit. I love your father's garden- so critter friendly as well as pretty.
The mural was really good. I do like it when people try to pretty up what would otherwise be boring walls. All it takes is a bit of acrylic paint like you put on walls inside the house.
Oh my that view from the airplane!
So lovely to have you back hun. Hugs
Sounds like a delightful trip. Thanks for all the lovely pictures. I would love to go back east sometime, so different from the southwest.
Love all that yummy fabric!
You were in my neighborhood. We have gotten most of our trees at Echo ... isn't it a neat place?
When you make it down again, there's a nice quilt shop in North Fort Myers called Quilt Lover's Hangout that's well worth a visit.
Wow, what a great pictures of a great trip! I'm glad you had a weak moment..now i can enjoy this fabulous fabric too!
