Lots to do all of a sudden.. a double 4patch

February seems like it should be a nice free and easy month.. to stay inside and catch up on organizing, cleaning, taxes, etc. But it is filling up with lots of projects..
Some of my stash is pathetic. I have tons.. stacks and piles.. of non-high quality fabric that is not really what you would find at your local quilt shop. This is stuff I've picked up over the years at thrift shops, rummage sales, clearance tables at discount stores, etc. Most probably not much cotton, in fact I know some to be of 100% unidentified fiber content. But. I can still use it to make comforters to send to those who are in need.

Saturday some of us are getting together at our church, and a little over a week ago someone asked if I could have a top done to knot into a comforter. I said sure. I would have to set my Tea Swap aside for just a little bit, but I think I can do that. I have been wanting to make a double four patch.. and not long ago Paula from A Latte Quilts had a nice tutorial that I had printed off for myself. Saturday I started cutting 4.5" squares, 2.5" squares, and sewing little four patches out of 1.5" squares..

And putting them all together..

I kind of like how they laid out the blocks on the cover of "A Simple Strategy for Swap Blocks" by Lynn Roddy Brown.. so I'm going to try it. This is what I have so far on my "inspirational carpet". Of course they are subject to be moved around...

And here.. yesterday I noticed my other Christmas cactus is blooming. Just in time.. for President's Day! I know the flower is fuzzy.. but for some reason my camera only wanted to focus on the pot and the leaves. I need a new camera with a lens!

Ok.. If I'm going to get done I need to get busy.. and oh.. I guess Hitty club is Friday.. last minute thing.. but I can't wait to go! Lots to do..
I'm thinking of you all...

Wow, you certainly cut into your stack. Good quality or not, I love what you are doing. Scrappy quilts are the best. The more fabrics the more interest. At least in my humble opinion. I guess Christmas cactus really don't know when it is time to bloom. I had a beautiful one that bloomed whenever it felt like it. It always brought some brightness to our home, until we neglected it.

That is a great and generous way to use the fabric. Whoever receives the quilt is not going to care. They will be happy that someone took the time to make them a quilt.

I agree with Carrie...great use of your fabrics. Someone is going to love the quilt. Thanks for the double 4-patch link.

You have such nice looking stash! The non-quilter recipient will not know the difference between your thrift store finds and high quality quilting fabric.
My Christmas cactus usually blooms at easter, too.

It looks great-I like the darker little 4-patches on the bed of flowers-looks like stepping stones through a garden! I just put a quilt in the frame for basting that has a similiar effect.

glad to get back to cutting
and sewing again..just lots
of hand work lately (if ya

Eileen once you take all those fabrics and put them in a quilt they will work out nicely just like your picture shows.
God I wish I had time during the day to work on projects.
One day....

Lovely stash fabrics. The quilt is going to look beautiful.

I have a white Christmas cacti (from a charity stall) but I like the deep pink ones best. :-)

However do you do it! You and your quilts amaze me! What do you do with your finished quilts?
I love the stash, I noticed that I have a few of those fabrics as well! I have not been to my sewing area in what seems like forever!

I hear you about February!! This is my first time through my bloglines in forever! I really like your ironing board cover, did you make it? Good job using up fabrics for quilts to give-away, I like that layout, very different :)
