Friday Evening With Grandma Dexter

I do have three blocks made for the baby quilt, but today was so dreary and overcast that the light was not good for pictures. Plus I think I want to have a couple more done first before I show.

So tonight I will leave you with Virginia Snow and Grandma Dexter. I've had this little quilt pattern catalog for a long time. In fact, I have so much stuff here in this house, that it is bursting at the seams, and it is just too good to always keep to myself. So here are some scans from this little 1930's booklet.
There are full-sized patterns throughout the book, but they are not for the faint of heart.. or the beginner. I don't consider myself to be too much of a beginner, and they are not even for me to be quite honest. So it is amazing to me that the women of the day could actually follow these patterns and make a beautiful masterpiece with very little directions.
Most of these scans I reduced, and then of course they have been reduced even more for the blog, but just click on them to read the words under the little pictures.
I decided not to post any of the original sized patterns as they are gigantic on the computer screen, but I tell you what. If anyone wants to see them, or more of the pictures in the booklet, please sign this post and let me know. I've only shown the font and back covers, and four of the 22 pages.
I think it would have been fun to be the illustrator of this book. Somebody had to draw all the little fabric pieces. And I am quite sure no one could have actually sewn the blocks to look just like this. They probably had a good time thinking about that while drawing.
Oh.. I did leave the back cover very large if you click it, because I think you need to see the quilting. Come to think of it now, it was probably just drawn too. But it looks so real. Oh wait.. it does say they are Actual Color Reproductions of the Most Popular Creations of the Year. I wonder how they did that.

These pictures are great! Think of the time the grandmothers have spent on making these!
