Tulips & Lavender Seeds

I know I keep showing stuff that comes in the mail.. but it is all so neat! A couple of weeks ago Melanie said she was sending me some "cast-offs".. scraps from when she was making her daughter's lovely prom dress.. that maybe I could use in making doll clothes. Which is very exciting because I never turn down a scrap. But she went a few steps further and added more Southport goodness..
The cute little chicks she had knitted and sent to me last year, but I brought them out for Easter this year and had them sitting on some eggs.. so I thought I'd show them. There was some tea in the package, some vintage threads.. sweet treats.. and these glorious dresser scarves! Vintage appliqué in the most wonderful colors. I could hardly believe my eyes.

I know just where I am going to put them! thank you Melanie!
And now the scary part. Seeds. Lavender Seeds. Organic Lavender Seeds from England. She said they were coming too. And here they are..
Oh I hope I can grow them. I will have to make sure I have the perfect dirt.. the perfect pot.. the perfect light and climate. We'll see what happens. If anyone knows anything about growing these in Ohio.. I am totally open for tips or suggestions. Can it be done?
Now I know I can grow tulips. These are in my front yard right now. Just stick in the bulbs and they come up year after year.

This bunch finally decided to unwrap their arms from about themselves and reach out to the sunshine. These were the ones huddled up the other day..

They will last a couple of weeks. Then hopefully I will have lilacs next. Mmmmm.

Hope you are all enjoying a nice Friday.. or weekend if you are there already.

Hi eileen-
i'm envyous of your tulips, mine aren't out yet. just hyacinths so far but i'm with you on the lilacs- they are the crowning glory for me in Spring. Mine have lots of buds not open yet!

What a treasure those seeds are, my advice is to plant a few in several exposures to see what they like. Also, don't plant all of them, save a few for next year. you can plant them after you find out the best place.

Such nice things from Melanie and I love the dresser scarves. So pretty. What beautiful tulips - but I'm jealous - lilacs are my favorite and they do not grow well here - the winters are too warm!

Your tulips look gorgious , still it is a bit early for tulips here. But today I have spent all day in the garden washing/ cleaning our garden furniture and so on.. My teak tabel needed a bit of oil too so i have been busy. No sewing around here this weekend..

I keep on saying this and you'll be bored hearing it too..you one lucky bunny! A mail from Melanie will always be of delight..and I've got those seeds too sent by our good friend, Melanie. Yes, I am doing my best to see if it grows here...and those tulips, I am envious. They are never grown here ;( and it seems like yesterday when we were peering out from your frosting window, you sure are having a great spring :P hugs.......M

I think the tulips are the early naturalizing form- Darwin or botanical tulips I think with the stripey leaves. Most other tulips are hungry so they like to be moved each year- hard work, so someone invented a plastic flat bottomed sieve that you put the bulbs in in a hole in the ground. In Autumn you then just dig the sieve up and they all come out with less bother.

Glad you liked the bits. :-)

I love the colors in those appliques! Just gorgeous. And your tulips are wonderful.

We have lots of lavender here, but I don't know what the trick is. It just grows like gangbusters out here in California.
